A Short History of HP PPM and Digital Business Process
1995: Kintana Becomes One Of The First Project Portfolio Management (PPM) Applications
Kintana was founded in the mid-90s as a provider of software products and services that enabled IT organizations to manage and automate changes for software applications.
Kintana was one of the first applications that provided true portfolio project management (PPM).
2003: Kintana Becomes Mercury IT Governance
In 2003, Kintana was acquired by Mercury Interactive Corporation, an Israeli company founded in 1989.
Mercury offered software for application management, application delivery, change and configuration management, service-oriented architecture, change request, quality assurance, and IT governance.
Kintana’s software was re-branded as “Mercury IT Governance.”
The founder of Digital Business Process (Abraham Delgado) was one of the members of the Mercury IT Governance team.
2004: Digital Business Process (DBP) Begins Implementing Mercury IT Governance
Digital Business Process (DBP) was established in 2004 when our founder, Abraham Delgado, left Mercury Interactive to focus on delivering value to IT and software organizations.
After working for some of the largest software companies in the world and leading teams of IT professionals and software developers, he realized that he could make a larger impact by helping companies automate their business processes and manage their project portfolios.
DBP helps companies become more efficient and cost-effective by optimizing three fundamental areas: people, process and tools (or technology).
2006: Mercury IT Governance Becomes HP Project and Portfolio Management (HP PPM)
On 25 July 2006, Hewlett-Packard announced that it would pay approximately $4.5 billion to acquire Mercury Interactive.
On 7 November 2006, Mercury Interactive formally became part of HP. Mercury Interactive products were rebranded and sold as part of the HP IT Management Software portfolio from the HP Software Division.
Hewlett-Packard re-branded “Mercury IT Governance” to “HP Project and Portfolio Management Center” or HP PPM.
2017: HP PPM Becomes Micro Focus PPM
Micro Focus International is a multinational software and information technology business based in Newbury, Berkshire, England.
On September 1, 2017, Micro Focus and HPE Software joined to become one of the largest pure-play software companies in the world. Bringing together two leaders in the software industry, Micro Focus is uniquely positioned to help customers maximize existing software investments and embrace innovation in a world of hybrid IT—from mainframe to mobile to cloud.
HP PPM will soon be re-branded to Micro Focus Project and Portfolio Management (MF PPM), however until the re-branding is complete, we will refer to the software solution as HP PPM.
